Baptism as a Sign

Jan 1st, 2005

Baptism As A Sign

Excerpt;
In our family, from time to time, Janice and I will communicate with our little ones by signing this way: point to the eye, cover our chest with our arms, and point to them. It’s a sign; it’s a way of saying without words what’s in our hearts. “I Love You”. We make our words visible. In God’s family, He has ways of saying, “I love you”. On the one hand, God speaks to us in his written word. The Bible declares to us his saving love. The word addresses our ears. God has a second way of saying “I love you”. He speaks to us in signs: signs by which he declares his saving love to our eyes. His signs appeal to us visually. Signs make the word visible. They speak visually of the historical realty of God’s redemptive work for us in Christ.
