John 17:11-19
1. What is holiness?
v.11 keep them in thy name
v. 17, sanctify them in the truth.
a) Grace
V.12 I was keeping them, I was guarding them
v. 13 that they may have my joy made full in themselves.
b) loyalty
v. 11 keep them in thy name
disgruntled hypocrisy
Gross hypocrisy
c) set apart
v.12 I was keeping them in the name you have given me.
d) Oneness
antithetical community
Antithetical: There is conflict, something opposing our progress.
Community:
v.11 keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are
2. How do we pursue holiness?
1) Bring God’s truth into your thinking
v.14 I have given them thy word
v.17 sanctify them in the truth, your word is truth.
2) You see yourself as a released debtor
v.19 and for their sakes I sanctify myself that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.
