Welcome to Redeemer Student Ministry! This is the place to find out more about our ministry for middle and high school students. Justin Dixon is the Director of Student Ministry, and you can read more about him here.

Sunday Morning

We have Sunday School at 9am every Sunday morning in the big blue/green room downstairs at the church. Follow the hallway all the way to the end, and you’ll find us there. This is a time each week to study the Word together and to learn about the foundational principles of our faith. Students are encouraged to bring a Bible to Sunday School, whether it’s a digital or hard copy. Justin regularly leads this class, but has a slate of adults who frequently teach in an effort to increase inter-generational interaction in our body. We usually have several of our leaders present, and we always have food!

Sunday Night

Redeemer Students also meet on Sunday nights for our traditional “youth group” time from 6-8pm at the church, and our schedule generally stays the same year-round. Our Sunday night time consists of fun and games, food, and then discipleship groups.  This time is for building relationships among the students and with our dedicated leaders. We have an amazing group of volunteer leaders that love to hang out and minister to our students–they love our students and do a great job with them. There is nothing that needs to be done to prepare for this time, but we encourage students to bring a friend.

Activities

In addition to our Sunday Night meetings at the church, we build community by planning exciting events such as a trip to Water Country USA, Putt-Putt, hiking, and our Christmas Party. We also participate in two retreats that you can read about below.

 Retreats @ Modgnik

We have a middle school and a high school retreat each year called Modgnik. We join with a bunch of other churches from our presbytery and state (and even beyond) for Modgnik, which takes place at Rockbridge Alum Springs, a Young Life camp and retreat center in Goshen, VA (near Lexington). Modgnik is a retreat, but it’s also a one-word reminder that we’ve been called to live in God’s “backwards kingdom.” (Modgnik is kingdom spelled backwards.) The retreat exists to help high school students consider how to live their lives in light of that calling, as well as to provide a fun weekend with their friends at a fantastic retreat facility.

2017 Modgnik dates:
High School Modgnik: April 21-23
Middle School Modgnik: TBA

Summer Camp @ Ridge Haven

We have been to Ridge Haven Service Project Camp for many years now as a group, and it’s a great week of serving at the camp, fun activities, and relationship building. We have inspiring worship times and enjoy fun activities like the blob, ropes course, hiking, swimming, and camp games; we also work as a team on a service project for 3-4 hours each day. This is a great way for students to not only experience the adventure of a camp, but also put their faith into action.

2017 Ridge Haven date: TBA

Servant Team

The Servant Team is our student leadership team, and it provides students with the opportunity to serve and take ownership and leadership of our Redeemer Student Ministry. Find out more here.
